FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Where does the tour start and end?
Our adventure begins and ends in India's capital, New Delhi. We'll spend the night in Delhi before setting off to Leh, one of the capitals of Ladakh
What's included in the trip?
Almost everything is included, including all accommodation, internal travel, accommodation, activities and all meals except for a few lunches and dinners where we will give you the freedom to explore and improvise. You can find all included items listed in different sections above and in our daily descriptions. Most tips for city guides and all shared activities are covered, except for those for hotel staff and our local driver & hosts.
What about altitude sickness?
Great question! In order to properly acclimate to the high altitude in Ladakh, we will spend our entire first day resting. This means not going on long walks or exploring as soon as we get there, trying not to walk up and down too many stairs, not carrying heavy loads like your luggage - there will be plenty of people to help you with that! Although we know you'll be excited to get out and discover this new place, it is best to take it easy on that first day so that you will acclimatize and ensure the rest of the trip goes smoothly. It is normal to feel tired and develop a headache a few hours after you arrive in Leh. We ask that you drink water, eat all your meals and try your best to take naps throughout the day. Your doctor may prescribe Diamox (Acetazolamide) for high altitude. It is up to you whether you take it or not. Some of our guests in the past have chosen to take it and some have not. Please be advised that it is a diuretic and this may prove more frustrating, especially at high altitude, where you will already need to pee more frequently!
How fit do I need to be for this trip?
While this is quite an active trip, any woman in average physical condition will find it manageable and fulfilling. You can expect to engage in plenty of walking each day, exploring the beautiful towns and villages of Ladakh. However, don't worry if you're not a seasoned athlete; the pace is moderate and designed to be relaxing and enjoyable. Additionally, be prepared for several hours of driving on travel days, offering a chance for rest and enjoy the stunning landscapes that Ladakh has to offer. The longest journey will be a 5-hour drive from Leh to Nubra, providing an excellent opportunity to take in the breathtaking scenery along the way.
Can I have a room to myself?
Absolutely! There’s a single room option available for an extra fee, but bear in mind due to our exclusive stays in small boutique hotels, we only offer a limited number of private rooms. If you're interested in having your own space, we recommend booking as soon as possible to ensure you secure a spot before the option for a private room is gone.
Will there be shopping opportunities?
Yes, we have a few opportunities built into the itinerary. We ensure visits to shops are pressure-free and focus on authentic craftsmanship, often supporting female artisans.
How does this trip empower women and/or people in need?
This is a unique adventure that empowers women by connecting you with female-led organizations and projects in Ladakh. We collaborate closely with local cooperatives, many of which provide jobs and training to women in challenging situations. By joining this trip, you'll enjoy an enriching cultural exchange while supporting the local economy in a sustainable and responsible way. We offer a space for local women to share their stories and skills, creating opportunities for economic and social empowerment.
How Does This Trip Benefit the Locals?
We don't work with intermediaries. Instead, we directly hire guides, book hotels, and arrange activities. This means 100% of your investment goes straight to the people who make this trip possible and ensure its success.
What should I pack for this adventure?
For your late May adventure in Ladakh, packing layers is essential to stay comfortable in the region's varied climate. Bring lightweight thermal base layers, fleece or wool sweaters for cooler mornings and evenings, and a windproof, waterproof jacket for unexpected weather changes. Comfortable trekking pants and long-sleeved shirts for sun protection are ideal, along with a warm hat, gloves, and a scarf or buff for wind and dust. Sturdy, waterproof hiking boots with good grip are a must for uneven terrain, while casual shoes are great for relaxing. Don’t forget wool socks, UV-protective sunglasses, high-SPF sunscreen, and a reusable water bottle. A small daypack will also come in handy for carrying essentials during hikes and excursions. With these items, you’ll be ready to embrace Ladakh’s breathtaking beauty and ever-changing weather!
What happens if I get sick?
We require you to have comprehensive travel insurance. If you need medical help, we’ll be there to assist every step of the way. Whether your illness is related to altitude or not, we'll take you to the highest standard of healthcare available as soon as possible. The Sonam Norboo Memorial Hospital (SNM) in Leh is a public hospital but has special services for visitors, which we have found to be professional and efficient.
What travel and medical insurance should I get?
When travelling to Iceland, ensuring you have comprehensive travel and medical insurance is absolutely essential. Double-check that your policy has your back for any unexpected twists and turns during your Icelandic adventure! We recommend that you book your insurance at the same time as you book your airfare, and after the retreat is confirmed by reaching the minimum number of participants.
What medications or vaccines should I consider?
While we do not have any required vaccines, we do recommend that you get in touch with a physician trained in travel medicine who will have recommendations.
I want to bring my daughter. Can I?
If your daughter is above the age of 18, we would be thrilled to have her join us.
I want to bring my partner on the trip. Can I?
This is actually a small group trip specifically designed for women traveling on their own. However, if you'd like to bring a female friend, partner, or family member, they are absolutely welcome! Unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate male travelers on our trips.
Can you adapt to vegetarian/vegan, gluten-free, or lactose-free diets?
Yes! Though we ask you to please let us know your dietary requirements in advance so we can carefully prepare each day's menus to suit everyone's needs. There are a few items in Ladakh that we cannot change or replace, like the local butter tea, which sometimes comes with the butter already mixed in. However we will ensure that you get enough food and the chance to experience all the local delicacies that align with your preferred diet.
